England’s head coach Matt Mott is ready and urging his team to leave a mark in their next T20 World Cup 2024 fixture against Australia.

England’s first game of the event was against Scotland in Barbados and it was washed out due to rain. Heavy rain forced the game to be restricted to 10 overs a side after which only Scotland was able to play its innings and set up a target of 91 runs but the rain struck again and the game was called off.

Addressing a press conference after the Scotland match, Matt Mott said, “I definitely think Australia is a big game but it's our next game [after the no result] and that's why it's a big game and then depending on how we go there, we reset and go again,”

Mott knows that despite their desires to win the match, it all comes down to the rain factor, “I'm sure, if the weather allows us, I think it'll be a fantastic contest between two very good teams.”

With England’s first match abandoned, Mott is looking forward to leaving a statement in the match against Australia.

“Yeah, we're looking to do that [make a statement], definitely. I think we showed that [against Scotland as well].”

Mott has been coaching England since May 2022 and during his tenure, the side won their second T20 World Cup title in 2022 by defeating Pakistan in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Mott previously coached Australia’s women's cricket team and in an excellent display of coaching, the team won two T20 World Cups, one Cricket World Cup, four Ashes and a 26 ODI match winning streak.

And now Mott is looking forward to England’s fixture against Australia on June 8 at Kensington Oval Barbados, the same venue where the Scotland v England game saw rain pouring down heavily on June 4.

“So, we match up really well against Australia and whatever the result of this game was, it was going to be a big game the next one and we're looking forward to it, really looking forward to it,” said the English head coach.

The defending champions are placed in Group B of the tournament with Australia, Oman, Namibia and Scotland with their next matches against Australia on June 8, Oman on June 13 and Namibia on June 15.
